Online Video: Better than Sliced Bread?

I was watching a TED video last night on “How to Stand out and be Remarkable” (link here ) and one of the things he talked about was the invention of sliced bread. What does this have to do with Online Video, you’re probably asking? Well apparently sliced bread was a failure from a sales perspective for the first 15 years of its existence. 15 years! In today’s terms thats FOREVER. A product that doesn’t sell well after 15 months is killed of today, if not earlier.
And then Wonder got a hold of it and wrapped it in marketing and people began to understand what was so good about this thing called sliced bread. I see online video doing for your business what Wonder did for sliced bread. Through customer video testimonials, online product demonstrations, webinars – you name it – online video gives you the ability to market to and connect with your audience like never before.
In many industries it also helps you stand out, and be remarkable. If I’m looking at getting a paint job for my car, for example, these days I would first go online. If anyone didn’t have a website I wouldn’t even know that they existed these days. Then I would surf through their content. If the paint shop’s website looks like it was created with Geocities in the late 90′s they are probably out as well. So for the sake of this example lets say it came down to two paint shops. Both had websites that looked OK, contact information, looked reputable and prices were comparable – how do I decide? Now imagine one of the websites is loaded with online video – they have video of customers talking about how happy they were with their paint job, video of cars going into their shop and coming out looking amazing and a video message from the mechanics saying they are passionate about what they do.
Which shop do you think I’m going to pick up the phone and call now?
