Vitomy - Video to Many

Vimeo is cool, but is it the place for your marketing videos?

Should your video be on Vimeo?

Vimeo is a user-driven website where people can upload and share creative video. It’s like YouTube in that users are encouraged to share, watch, and comment on videos, but made for a niche of artsier posters and viewers.

Vimeo also lets users make some adjustments to how their video content is presented (text colors and things like that). Vimeo also allows you to upload longer, higher quality videos than YouTube.

Off-hand, Vimeo sounds like a pretty good deal for any company in search of a video platform. However, before you sign up for Vimeo and upload your invaluable video marketing content, here is why you should stick to your own custom online video platform:

  • Vimeo doesn’t accept commercial videos: Your marketing videos might fall within Vimeo’s definitions of “commercial” content. Why risk getting your videos pulled from the site?
  • Vimeo is a creative community where users show off their creations: Vimeo is all about being artistic, so the site tends to attract film makers, people in the music industry, and other artists. Being involved with a creative community isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but ask yourself whether your marketing videos are going to accomplish their goals on a site that is mostly used for showcasing art.
  • Because Vimeo is a bit more of a niche platform, it doesn’t have the ubiquity that YouTube does. YouTube’s larger user base and easy integration with other platforms (especially Google products) make it the superior platform for getting your video shared by viewers.

Avoid showing video content on sites that aren’t suited for marketing videos. Showcase your online videos on a platform that provides the type of control and customization needed for effective marketing—while still allowing you to capitalize on the sheer popularity of YouTube—by signing up for Vitomy today!
